Summer Colour

You have only got to study summer flowers in a meadow or border and the colours are vivid and bright. So I created a pattern of flowers.

Gorgeous gorse on the Studland Peninsular

photo-104On a bitterly cold day in March we walk through the dunes trying to keep out of the wind.

It’s spring but feels like mid winter.

The gorgeous golden yellow flowers of the gorse covered pathways brighten up the entire landscape and become luminous against the dark grey sky.

Too early for almond blossom

Cacela Velha – The Ria Formosa in Eastern Algarve

revisited January 2015

When we arrived at our favourite place it was too early for almond blossom – when we left 2 weeks later the trees in the orchards and meadows were showing signs of delicate snowy white petals with just a hint of pink.

Spoonbills, standing like statues at the waterside, a kingfisher darting from fishing boat to fishing boat, black cormorants diving and two storks flying overhead completed the perfect picture.

Studland Midwinter Walk

A couple of days before the winter solstice, the sun is low in the sky all day long but the captivating beauty of the Studland Peninsular and the Isle of Purbeck never fades.

Rich caramel colours of bracken and water pools mix with the golden creams of dune grass, silver birch trees, dark green conifers and faded pink heather – now a carpet of white.

Sitting on high stools in the National Trust Café we looked out towards Old Harry Rocks across the bay. The sea was calm and the beach almost deserted…

A perfect time of year to reflect.
