Lin and Sam Adams work in the Respect Organics Studio Gallery in the beautiful hilltop town of Shaftesbury, Dorset, home to one of the most photographed views in the UK, Gold Hill. Only 20 minutes from Salisbury and Sherborne, drop in to soak up the landscape in our gallery and walled garden.
Many of our paintings are inspired by the natural elements of the Chesil Beach, the Purbeck Peninsular, and the Dorset Heath. Light on the water, light through the trees, light in the sky… The organic landscape.
Meet the artists
“I’ll happily wait hours for the light to change from grey to gold to purple. When I’m standing there on the heath I’m transported to Hardy’s Woodlanders and if I can get anywhere close to capturing his written emotions on canvas I’m overjoyed.”
Lin Adams started painting in acrylics and pastels in 2003. Constantly seeking inspiration from the Dorset landscape her paintings reflect a sensitivity to the changing seasons in the countryside of Thomas Hardy’s Wessex. From the Blackmore Vale through woodland and heath to the Purbeck Peninsular – a Dorset pathway of continual beauty.
“When painting I love to get up close and personal with nature, I feel a part of it myself on a good day. I can return to the same meadow again and again and again throughout the year and never get bored as the seasons transform the landscape before me. Just one tree will stop me in my tracks and make me want to sketch, a piece of nature’s very own sculpture…”
Sam’s watercolour paintings capture the shapes and colours of Dorset and can bring the warmth and vibrancy of a summer meadow into your home, whatever the weather. Sam also has a range of lovely cards, teaches one-to-one and does commissions.
“I’ve realised I am fascinated by the relationship between humans and the space around us, and the visual shapes, colours and patterns that creates.
I just have great fun spotting the quirky or a glorious accidental combination of colours. I also seem to have a bizarre obsession with blue doors and shop signs.”
Kate’s photographs are available in high quality, modern white frames and mounts.

“I’m improving all the time. Sam is a great teacher.”
“My daughter loves her art lessons. She even had her picture of a snowman turned into a proper Christmas card and was thrilled.”

“Many of the people I have taught over the years will arrive carrying quite a lot of weight on their shoulders. Through the expression of art, they escape the daily grind for an hour or more and after the experience they feel uplifted and relaxed. The art experience isn’t just for a day – it is forever.”
