frequently asked questions

I’ve noticed you don’t put the weight of your cakes on the packaging.
Why is that?

Cakes do not generally have any declared weights on them because a bakery can only ensure the batter weight before baking. Products baked do vary in weight due to many factors. This then would make the enforcement of minimum weight standards very difficult to ensure 100% of the time.

Here are our standard baked weights:

Carrot Cake 350 grams
Chocolate Cake 330 grams
Banana Loaf Cake 280 grams
Fruit Loaf 280 grams
Ginger Loaf Cake 280 grams

Are any of your cakes suitable for vegans?

While all of our cakes are suitable for vegetarians they are not suitable for vegans.

Are any of your cakes dairy free?

Yes, carrot cake, banana loaf cake and ginger crush loaf cake are dairy free.

our bakers
Emily Potts

Potts Bakers was established in 1891 by Emily Potts. When her husband, John, died in his early thirties, Emily was left with five young children. To support her family she started baking at home and her children would take the bread and cakes to sell locally. The business prospered and outgrew the family kitchen, and the local squire agreed to build a bakery and shop, which still trades today at 514 Doncaster Road, Stairfoot.

Roger and Andrew Potts

Over a century on, Roger and Andrew Potts now own and manage the bakery, where skilled craft bakers and quality ingredients ensure the high standards set by Emily continue today. Potts is accredited by the Soil Association and once you try a Respect Banana Loaf you’ll know just why we work with this fantastic team of master bakers.
