Too early for almond blossom

Cacela Velha – The Ria Formosa in Eastern Algarve

revisited January 2015

When we arrived at our favourite place it was too early for almond blossom – when we left 2 weeks later the trees in the orchards and meadows were showing signs of delicate snowy white petals with just a hint of pink.

Spoonbills, standing like statues at the waterside, a kingfisher darting from fishing boat to fishing boat, black cormorants diving and two storks flying overhead completed the perfect picture.
